Build together

Build together: your idea and your sales, Datawonder's software

Build together is a partnership from Datawonder for entrepreneurs who have a strong idea for an app, a SaaS product or a process automation but cannot build it themselves: you bring the idea and do the selling, Datawonder builds, hosts and maintains the software. Revenue after running costs is split 50-50.

You pay nothing upfront. Datawonder invests the build, you invest your idea, your network and your time to sell it. It is not a commission with a quote but a partnership: neither of us earns until there are paying customers. In start-up terms: Datawonder is your technical co-founder on a revenue share, without taking equity in your company.

Datawonder says yes when

You have a good idea that customers will pay for Custom software or automation is the core of the solution, not something an off-the-shelf package already does You know the market and have a network of people and companies you will approach You do the selling, the marketing and the customer contact yourself You have time and persistence: selling is work that goes on for months There is a click between us as entrepreneurs

Datawonder says no when

You expect Datawonder to do the marketing or the selling as well You want to hand over the idea and wait The idea already exists as standard software that is good enough There is no identifiable group of customers who will pay for it The idea does not feel honest, or it needs AI that falls under high risk in the EU AI Act without you wanting a compliance track for it There is no click

Who does what

You as partner

Brings the idea and the knowledge of the market Has a say in what goes into the first version Approaches people and companies, holds the conversations and closes the deals Does the marketing, the demos and the customer contact Feeds back what customers say, so the next version gets better

Datawonder

Builds the software, starting with a first working version Publishes, hosts and secures the product on its own infrastructure Maintains it, fixes outages and builds on what customers ask for Takes care of the GDPR and the EU AI Act from the first version Settles at fixed moments, with the figures visible to both of us

How it works

1

Intro call

Thirty minutes, free. You explain your idea and we see whether there is a click.

2

Assessment

Is custom software really needed, who pays for it and how much? Together we decide the minimum the first version must do.

3

Agreement

Before a single line of code, we put the terms in writing: the split, the costs, ownership, duration and what happens if one of us stops.

4

Build

Datawonder builds the first version and puts it live. You follow along and start the first conversations.

5

Sales

You sell, Datawonder keeps the product running and builds on what customers ask for.

6

Split

At fixed moments we settle: revenue minus running costs, 50-50.

Questions and answers

What does build together mean at Datawonder?

Build together is a partnership: you bring an idea for an app, a SaaS product or an automation and do the selling, Datawonder builds, hosts and maintains the software. You pay nothing upfront. Revenue is split 50-50 after the running costs for hosting, APIs and the payment provider. It is meant for entrepreneurs who are good at selling but cannot build it themselves.

Is Datawonder a technical co-founder on a revenue share?

In effect, yes. Datawonder brings the software, the hosting and the maintenance, you bring the idea and the sales, and both of us are paid from revenue instead of from an invoice. Unlike a classic co-founder, Datawonder takes no shares in your company: the code stays with Datawonder, the idea, the customers and the data stay with you, and the split is fixed in a written agreement.

What exactly does 50-50 mean at Datawonder?

50-50 is the split of revenue after the product's running costs are deducted: hosting, APIs and the payment provider. Those costs grow with usage and belong to the product itself. Whatever each of us puts in beyond that stays at our own expense: Datawonder the build time, you the time and costs for marketing and sales. We settle at fixed moments, with the figures visible to both of us.

Do I have to pay to have my idea built?

No. In build together you pay Datawonder nothing for the build. Datawonder invests the build time and the hosting, you invest your idea, your network and the time to sell. Neither of us earns until customers pay. If you would rather be a regular client and own the software yourself, that is possible too: then you get a quote with a fixed price.

Who owns the app or the software?

The code stays with Datawonder, so that Datawonder can host, secure and develop it further. The idea, the customers and the data are and remain yours. How we part ways if one of us stops is set out in the agreement before we start.

What happens to my idea if we do not go ahead together?

It stays yours. Datawonder does not build your idea without you and does not use it for someone else. An intro call commits you to nothing: you explain your idea and Datawonder tells you honestly whether it fits. If it does not, you hear why.

Which ideas qualify for build together?

Ideas where custom software or automation is the core and where an identifiable group of customers will pay for it: an app, a SaaS product, a platform, a process automation or an AI assistant for a specific industry. Datawonder says no when a standard package already does it well enough, when no customers can be named or when the partner expects Datawonder to do the selling too.

What do I do myself as a partner?

Everything around sales. You approach people and companies in your network, give demos, hold the conversations, close the deals and keep in touch with customers. You also bring your knowledge of the market: what customers need, what they will pay and what the next version needs. Datawonder does the technology; selling is your trade and your contribution.

Is there a contract?

Yes. Before Datawonder starts building, we put the terms in writing: the revenue split, which costs come off first, who owns what, the duration and what happens if one of us stops. Exclusivity is in there too: Datawonder does not build the same product for a competitor and you are free in the rest of your business.

What if sales disappoint?

Then we both earn little. That is the risk we share: Datawonder loses build time, you lose sales time. That is why Datawonder starts with a first version small enough to test with customers quickly, and the product grows with what is sold. If revenue stays away, we discuss whether to stop. How that works is in the agreement.

How do I submit an idea to Datawonder?
