What are the best voice agents for business use in the Netherlands?

The best voice agent for business use does not exist as a brand, but it does as a match. In the Netherlands you choose on four things: how well it understands and speaks Dutch, whether it works on your own phone number, which systems it connects to and where your data is processed. Below I compare the kinds of voice agent, say when each one fits and tell you what I build with myself.

What are the best voice agents for business use in the Netherlands?

The best voice agents for business use in the Netherlands are the ones that understand and speak Dutch well, are reachable on your own number, connect to your calendar or CRM and process your data within the terms of the GDPR. Which brand meets that best differs per company and per kind of call. A ranking would mislead you, because most platforms are built for the English-speaking market and perform unevenly in Dutch. The question you can answer: which kind of voice agent fits the way my company works and who is going to maintain it? For that you need to know which kinds exist.

What kinds of voice agents are there for businesses?

There are four kinds of voice agent for businesses: build platforms on which a custom agent is configured, ready-made phone assistants on a subscription, voice AI as part of a telephony or customer service suite and an agent that an agency builds and maintains for you. A build platform gives you the most freedom and asks the most work: you decide what the agent recognises, what it does when it does not understand and which systems it talks to. A ready-made assistant is switched on quickly and fits as long as your calls fit the standard menu. Voice AI inside a suite you already use saves an integration but ties you to that suite's quality in Dutch. Having it built combines the platform with someone who configures, tests and maintains it. That is the choice when the phone is a bottleneck and nobody in-house has time to look after an agent.

Inbound or outbound: which type of voice agent do you need?

An inbound voice agent answers the phone and handles appointments, standard questions and transfers. An outbound voice agent calls out itself, for example to follow up leads or confirm appointments. Most companies start with inbound, because missed calls cost money immediately. Inbound fits a practice line that is full between eight and ten, an office that does not answer outside working hours or a team doing everything at once at peak times. Outbound fits work that happens from a list every day. For Irish Trade Federation I built a voice agent with ElevenLabs that calls leads from an Excel list; n8n writes the outcome of each call with its actions and logs into an Airtable database, so follow-up and analysis happen in one place. Outbound calling comes with extra rules on who you may call unsolicited and when, so settle that beforehand.

What do you look for when choosing for the Dutch market?

For the Dutch market you look at five points: the quality of the Dutch with accents and dialects, whether you can keep or forward your existing phone number, the integrations with your calendar, CRM and email, a data processing agreement that is clear about where speech and transcripts are processed and the notice at the start of the call that the caller is talking to AI. That notice has been mandatory since 2 August 2026 under Article 50 of the AI Act. Do not test the Dutch with a vendor demo but with your own callers: someone from Limburg or Groningen, someone in the car, someone asking three questions at once. Ask the telephony provider whether your number moves with you; a new number means updating your details everywhere. And look at the handover: can the agent transfer to a colleague with a summary of the call? Without that step every doubt stays with the caller.

Which platform does Datawonder use and why?

I build voice agents with platforms such as ElevenLabs and Retell, because in practice they let me set up Dutch-speaking agents that respond quickly and connect to the systems my clients already use. The agent gets its own number or your existing number forwards to it. It connects to your calendar, CRM, email or database, for example through Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Airtable or n8n. The platform is only part of the work. The difference between an agent that is switched off after three weeks and one that keeps running lies in the setup: which intents it recognises, what it does when it does not understand, when it transfers and how the appointment lands in the right calendar with the right duration. Platform choice is the second question; the first is who does that work.

How long does it take before a business voice agent is live?

A voice agent is usually live within three to four weeks. Then follow six weeks in which someone listens back to real calls for an hour a week and adjusts. In the discovery call we decide which kinds of calls it must handle and which systems it connects to. Then I define what it recognises, what it does when it does not understand and when it transfers. We test with real calls before it goes on the number. The six weeks of tuning are not an extra: that is where you find the callers with a dialect, the question asked twenty times a week that was not in the script, the appointment that landed in the wrong calendar. Skip those weeks and you keep an agent that usually gets it right, and that feels like a failure.

Should I install a voice agent myself or have it built?

You do not install a business voice agent on a device; it runs at the platform and is connected to your phone number. Setting it up yourself works if someone on your team has time for it every week. Having it built is wiser when the phone is a bottleneck and that time is not there. If you are searching for how to install a voice agent on a smart speaker or configure a voice assistant for a smart home, you are looking at a different product: those are consumer assistants you set up in an app. A business agent needs one owner who keeps it up to date. Your prices change, your opening hours change, a service is added. If nobody updates that, the agent's answer slowly shifts from correct to correct last year. Count on half an hour a week for that person. If you cannot name that person, a voice agent is not yet the right project.

The short version

Four kinds: build platform, ready-made, suite or built for you. Four requirements for the Netherlands: good Dutch, your own number, integrations and a data processing agreement with the AI notice at the start of the call. Start with inbound if you miss calls, with outbound if you call a list every day. And name one owner before you choose.
